Duration of relationship with Charity Challenge: 5 years promoting both exclusive departures and open challenges.

Case Study: We are constantly approached by tour operators eager for our business but no one matches Charity Challenge for their ethical approach and charitable ethos.  They strike a harmonious balance between running a successful, thriving business and providing charities of all sizes with opportunities to raise much needed funds. The fact that they donate $20 (US) per participant to a local community project in the challenge area is the icing on the cake.

The staff are always available, friendly and knowledgeable whether they are based in the London office or in situ on a trek.  We’ve had people trek with other tour operators but they say Charity Challenge got them nearer to experiencing life in distant communities. I have no doubt that these are the attributes that bring in repeat business both for them and us.

ADDISS

Case Study: Trek to Machu Picchu, April 2007

On behalf of ADDISS and the whole trekking team, I wanted to thank you and Charity Challenge for making possible such a life enhancing experience.

Before we went I had great reservations firstly about my own ability to complete the challenge and a fear of letting everyone down and secondly the fact that the trek had been changed to a different route, which was a great disappointment.

However both these fears and reservations were greatly unjustified. The two guides Juan and Mark were both absolutely amazing. They were supportive and helpful all the way and helped us to overcome so many obstacles.  The trek was indeed tough but I was determined to complete it without giving in to riding on a horse and indeed I climbed mountains – a great achievement.

The new route was breathtakingly awesome and any disappointment I had was long forgotten. We walked and climbed to a place rarely seen by the outside world.

From an organizational viewpoint the whole trip from beginning to end was very professionally managed. I was surprised at the quality of food we were given on the trek. Having trekked up a mountain for 4 or 5 hours in the freezing cold to find a small dining tent waiting for us with a hot bowl of soup and some warm food in the middle of nowhere. The crew were excellent, carrying our bags, tents and cooking equipment on horseback ahead of us.

Thank you once again for a truly memorable and life changing experience.

NCH

Duration of relationship with Charity Challenge: 5 years promoting both exclusive departures and open challenges.

Amount raised on Charity Challenge expeditions for NCH: Over the last 5 years we have raised thousands of pounds through our supporters' participation on Charity Challenge expeditions. They have taken part in exclusive challenges to the Great Wall of China, through the Escambray Mountains in Cuba, on a Mexican jungle trek, a Thailand jungle trek, an Andalucian adventure in Spain and most recently with three groups to the Grand Canyon.

Case Study: Charity Challenge expeditions provide us with a very successful and attractive fundraising tool to offer our corporate supporters. One example is our ongoing support from Wolseley UK. They are an incredible corporate supporter and have always been open to new ways to help raise funds for NCH the children's charity. Charity Challenge are very much aware of what corporates require and they continue to create inspirational expeditions to keep our supporters interested. Wolseley UKs ongoing support through Charity Challenge has raised over 650,000 for NCH, supporting over 160,000 vulnerable children, young people and families cross the UK.

Diabetes UK

Duration of Relationship with Charity Challenge: 5 years. Our collaboration has been a tremendous success.

Amount Raised on Charity Challenge Expeditions for Diabetes UK: In 2005 fundraisers with Charity Challenge will have raised just under £160,000for Diabetes research on 2 Everest Base Camp trips alone plus an enormous amount more over the three previous years.

Case Study: We have used Charity Challenge both as a fundraising tool and an awareness tool. Diabetes and fitness are very closely related, and events such as the ones Charity Challenge put together are great. The beauty about Charity Challenge too is that all destinations are fantastic and the logistics have always been perfect. Diabetes UK just had 2 groups of 30 people, including many people with diabetes, doing the Everest Base Camp Trek in October 2005. Previously we have run in collaboration with Charity Challenge treks to the Great Wall of China in 2003 and to the top of Kilimanjaro in 2004, which were equally inspirational and successful for us and the participants. We are now hoping to reach similar results with our Saigon to Angkor Wat Bike Ride and Andean Volcanoes Challenge in Ecuador this year.

Show Racism the Red Card

Duration of Relationship with Charity Challenge: 3 Years

Amount Raised on Charity Challenge Expeditions for Show Racism The Red Card: £40,000 - a relatively small amount but raising awareness of the Charity has been just as important for them

Case Study: Don Cowper, Show Racism the Red Card, trekked to the summit of the world’s highest freestanding mountain - Kilimanjaro - in December 2002, and was so inspired by his experience, that he returned to the UK and immediately started to encourage others to participate in similar challenges. He was very convincing and he travelled to Peru in 2003 to walk the Inca Trail and to Nepal in April 2004 to trek to Everest Base Camp, along with 18 others whom he recruited to join him including John Robson.  John had plenty to say about his trek for Show Racism the Red card:

"Some things come into your life and leave footprints across your heart – and they never go away. The Everest Base Camp Expedition was one of those occasions and has acted like a springboard for me to get more involved in raising awareness and money for SRTRC (and other local charities), giving talks at school assemblies, lecturing to children, and hosting a couple of Cheese and Wine evenings with the emphasis on Mount Chomolunga (Everest). Sitting on the trek to Tengboche Monastery I have never felt so alone and so at home with myself at the same time. It was a small measure of peace we all seek and few of us ever find. A truly life changing adventure which will lead to future expeditions to Cotopaxi (January 2005), Kilimanjaro (September 2005) and Aconcagua (2006) - all with Charity Challenge."

Trips to Ecuador, China and Kilimanjaro are planned for 2005 and a trek in Argentina in 2006 to raise even more worthwhile funds for Show Racism the Red Card.

Breakthrough Breast Cancer

Amount Raised on Charity Challenge Expeditions for Breakthrough: Over £750,000

Case Study: Breakthrough developed a close working relationship with Charity Challenge in 2003 whilst working on the Women's Great Walk of China, an event that took over 6 months to complete and involved over 200 Breakthrough supporters.Since then Breakthrough has promoted the full range of Charity Challenge treks to our supporters. As part of Prima magazine's support of Breakthrough Breast Cancer, a group of Prima readers took part in a trek in Mexico in May 2005. The ladies had an action packed time and raised over £73,000 between them! Prima magazine continues its support by launching a second trek to Tanzania in June 2006.We are looking forward to taking two groups of trekkers to Peru in April 2006 and are grateful for the support of all those involved in overseas treks in helping us towards our goal of a future free from the fear of breast cancer.

The Anthony Nolan Trust

Duration of Relationship with Charity Challenge: 2 years

Amount Raised on Charity Challenge Expeditions for the Anthony Nolan Trust: We have run two trips to Everest Base Camp since September 2003 with nearly 100 participants raising over £300,000 as well several other supporters choosing an 'open' challenge from Charity Challenge's portfolio of international events offering a different choice and location.

Case Study: Both trips have been fantastic! Even when atrocious weather meant a five day delay for one of the groups returning to the UK, Charity Challenge quickly put the health and safety of all individuals first ensuring all were looked after by providing food and accommodation and keeping the next of kin and The Anthony Nolan Trust fully informed.

Breast Cancer Campaign

Duration of Relationship with Charity Challenge: 5 years

Amount Raised on Charity Challenge Expeditions for Breast Cancer Campaign: £81,000

Case Study: In 2005 Breast Cancer Campaign launched an exclusive overseas challenge programme in conjunction with Charity Challenge. In October 2006 Breast Cancer Awareness Month will be celebrated with over 25 trekkers taking on the Inca Trail challenge.

Breast Cancer Campaign continues to promote the wide variety of open treks which Charity Challenge has to offer. This gives all our supporters a great choice of destinations, challenge types and experiences. The working relationship we have enables us to concentrate on supporting our fundraisers to raise above and beyond their minimum sponsorship, as we can rely on Charity Challenge to look after the logistics of the trip and always be available to answer any queries we may have.
