One week teambuilding challenges in the developing world
“I can undoubtedly say that nothing comes close to the value this programme provides to the individual, the team and the firm. The powerful experience that our people have had will never be forgotten”
The communitychallenge programme is a series of powerful and inspiring team challenges that develop and motivate staff, provide much needed assistance to the developing world, and raise vital funds for charity.
Following the unimaginable loss of life and the destruction caused by the Asian tsunami in 2004, it became clear that companies wanted to help, not just by sending money to the worst affected areas, but by sending people. The communitychallenge programme was developed in response to this demand, through a partnership between specialist expedition management company Charity Challenge and international house building charity, Habitat for Humanity.
The phenomenally positive impact of this fully managed programme has meant that these unique community challenges are now available in Africa and Asia. Designed to enable employees to get directly involved in making a hands-on contribution to communities most in need, communitychallenges help address pressing issues such as the orphans crisis in South Africa and poverty housing in India.
On a communitychallenge, a staff team goes to a developing country for one week (using weekends to travel) and helps a local family to build their own home. No previous building experience is needed. With an emphasis on health and safety, volunteers work under the guidance of professionals, allowing employees to focus on making a real difference. All that is needed is the energy, enthusiasm and desire to help.
Over 1000 employee volunteers have taken part in the communitychallenge programme since its launch in 2005, raising more than £1 million for Habitat for Humanity.
why is this so different from other team building events?
- The communitychallenges solve real life problems whilst making a tangible difference.
- They provide a unique opportunity to work alongside communities from other countries, developing strong relationships between people and understanding between culture.
- They engage, motivate, reward, and empower individuals way beyond expectation. They provide an exciting and inspirational personal development and networking opportunity, whilst helping others in need.
A leading UK government body responsible for best practice in sustainable development recently commended Charity Challenge as follows:
“The company, which provides a series of inspiring team challenges that develop and motivate staff, aimed at providing assistance to the developing world and fundraising for charity, is to be commended on producing an application that shows evidence of a thorough and committed understanding of all aspects of sustainable development, both within the company itself and in its core business activities. It is clear that sustainable development is at the heart of the business. The examiners were thoroughly impressed with the company’s commitment to social sustainability; in this rapidly expanding market, it represents outstanding performance and is an example to others.”
