ESSENTIAL INFO

All you need to know

The challenge

  • A mountain climb up Western Europe's highest peak
  • Tackle 2 other peaks over 4000m in practice for the Mont Blanc summit
  • Put your alpine climbing skills into practice
  • Trek using crampons, harnesses and ropes over the snow-covered mountain
  • Experience traditional mountain huts through your ascent

Mont Blanc is Western Europe's highest, and some might say toughest, climbing peak. Beginning with a training weekend in the mountains of North Wales, you will meet the team and will be introduced to your guides for the summit challenge. Here you will learn about alpine rope skills, moving together as a team, how best to use your climbing kit, and other essential skills that you will need whilst out on the challenge.

The climb itself is a technical one. You will have several training days on the Swiss side of the alps, as you ascend the Weissmies and Allalinhorn peaks, both also over 4000m of altitude. Here, you will be able to put your winter climbing skills into practice before heading for Mont Blanc. This will also give you a chance to get used to the altitude, as you will spend several nights sleeping at a mid-altitude in order to prepare your body for the ascent.

This tough alpine challenge will involve you sleeping in mountain huts, giving you the unique opportunity to view the Alps from your doorway, as you open your hut door directly onto the mountains. You will be carrying all your climbing kit with you during the day, and one of the organisers in charge of your Mont Blanc challenge has put together this incredibly useful video in how to pack your kit for a successful Alpine challenge. This is definitely worth a watch before you start!

This challenge is essentially a task of mental and physical endurance - but your sense of achievement will be unsurpassed as you enter an elite number of climbers to summit Mont Blanc!
