Support ABF The Soldiers’ Charity this October by taking part in the Ancestry.co.uk Frontline Walk.

Walk 100km to commemorate 100 years since the start of the First World War.

Exclusively organised on behalf of ABF The Soldiers’ Charity, and supported by Ancestry.co.uk, we are aiming to recruit at least one walker to represent each of the each of the 220 regiments which existed at the outbreak of WW1, and organise a historic challenge that will follow the western front of the Great War.

Over 8.5 million people across the world died in the First World War, which is an incredible figure, and sometimes difficult to comprehend. Only by seeing the memorials will you be able to really grasp the sheer scope of this war, as the sites commemorate not only French, British and German soldiers, but also the many nations from the Commonwealth, Russia, the US and the rest of Europe who fought alongside each other.

The challenge begins near Albert in Northern France. Beginning in the Somme we trek north, stopping at the many WWI memorial sites that you will see on the way. You will pass through many famous battle sites such as Thiepval, Vimy, the German Cemetery at Neuiville Saint Vaast, and Notre-Dame de Lorette, which is the largest French Memorial. The challenge ends with a moving visit to Ypres and the ceremony of the last-post, on the 18th October 2014, 100 years on from the Battle of Ypres.

This poignant and touching event will enable you to connect with the soldiers of WWI and support the soldiers of today.

Sign up today for a truly unforgettable experience.
