India Community Challenge
Fri 15 October 2010 - Sun 24 October 2010
- Help renovate/build a sports field as a legacy for MUF
- Many of these people earn less than US$2 per day*
- Volunteers desperately needed to build a better future for a community
- Taking responsible tourism to developing countries
- Play football with the local community
This challenge provides an exciting opportunity for individuals and teams to travel and work closely with people of another culture and to make a tangible difference in their lives. Building a school or sports field for someone else is a unique experience that opens your eyes to the plight of others who do not have the basic, decent education, schools and clean, safe environments that most of us take for granted. It is a physical and emotional experience, and volunteers often come away knowing a great deal more about themselves than they did beforehand.
All it takes to participate in this challenge is enthusiasm and motivation. No other skills are required, as there will be skilled supervisors on hand to show you what to do. Volunteering is first and foremost about giving a 'hand up, not a hand out' to those in need. But the benefits to the local communities you work in go far beyond you providing an extra pair of hands.
You will be working in partnership with the NGO MMF Project Evolution whose focus is on socially and economically marginalised families, education and those affected by HIV/AIDS. MMF Project Evolution believe that for children to thrive and develop, they need a safe, secure and healthy environment. MMF Project Evolution’s mission is to provide a productive and healthy environment for thousands of children and to provide them with practical, emotional and educational skills to enable them to construct a dignified and productive future for themselves.
