The challenge

  • Snow shoe across frozen lakes and mountain terrain
  • Witness the stunning mountains that traverse the Aiguestortes Park
  • Explore a world that for much of the winter is inaccessible to most trekkers
  • Awake to the crispness of the fresh mountain air
  • Opportunity to spot and track wildlife

A relatively unknown activity, snowshoeing presents the perfect way to explore the winter landscapes of the Pyrenees. This unique challenge takes you into the heart of some of Europe’s most unspoiled and breathtaking landscapes, crossing between France and Spain, as you explore the stunning mountains that traverse the Aiguestortes National Park.

Beginning in the spa town of Bagnères de Luchon, in the French Midi-Pyrénées, you will have a chance to acclimatise to the mountains and your equipment before heading across the border into neighbouring Spain. Here, amongst the staggering vistas of Catalonia’s only national park, you will have a chance to explore a world that for much of the winter is inaccessible to most trekkers. Staying in mountain refuges and snowshoeing over high mountain passes, you will travel through a frozen world of breathtaking serenity. Led by qualified mountain guides and walking up to eight hours a day, this incredible challenge affords a chance to test yourself against nature and the elements in the mountains of north-eastern Spain.

Be aware, another element of the challenge is that you will be required to carry your own gear between the mountain refuges whilst in the mountains.
