All you need to know
After all the preparation, the time has finally come to get pedalling! The journey kicks off in East London, where we meet the rest of the group, the challenge leader and support team. An introductory briefing will include vital safety advice, and then we’re off!
Our chosen route out of London takes us south, past Rochester and then towards Canterbury before reaching Dover. We then board the ferry for and early evening crossing to Calais. On disembarking the ferry we will have a short ride to our hotel.
We will depart Calais, heading towards Boulogne via roads that follow the coast before heading inland to Abbeville. The route is undulating for the first part of the day before becoming flatter after Boulogne. This route will see you passing the beautiful Baie de Somme, the large estuary draining 6 rivers into the English channel before reaching Abbeville.
Having arrived in Abbeville during the late afternoon, the group will dine at a local restaurant then retire for an early night at our hotel.
We depart Abbeville and take the time to enjoy the rolling, picturesque French countryside, passing tiny hamlets, bubbling brooks and “ville fleurie” farmhouses.
We will arrive into Beauvais around mid afternoon giving us time to relax and view the magnificent cathedral.
Today we depart on our final leg and our grand entrance to Paris. Today is a shorter distance give us plenty of time to contemplate our achievement as we pass through the increasingly urbanised landscape, making our way along the river Seine. Although this is a shorter distance to travel, excitement builds as we cycle through the Oise region. We shall ride in via the pretty town of Pontoise, and then along the river Seine.
The team will regroup and refuel on the outskirts of Paris, ahead of the last section which will take approximately 90 minutes. After reaching the other side of Versailles, we will once again head upwards in an attempt to avoid major thoroughfares. From here we catch our first glimpse of the iconic Tour Eiffel. The adrenaline will be pumping as we glide our way past the Arc de Triomphe and down the Champs Elysees, before reaching our ultimate destination.
There’s time for a quick celebratory drink and the obligatory victory snaps in the shadow of the tower, before we head off to our hotel for the final celebratory dinner together.
Now the hard work is over, it is time to watch how the professionals do it! Take your place early along the Champs Elysees for the arrival of Le Tour and the famous 10 laps on the cobbles before this iconic race climax heads into town and the final sprint for the line.
All that is now left is for you to make your own way to the Gare du Nord station, from where we catch the Eurostar back to St Pancras International. (Your bike will be transported back for you and will be waiting for you at St Pancras station.)
