challenge overview
"The One Foundation works with communities in Africa who don't have clean water supplies or are in need of support with their public health programmes.”
A communitychallenge provides an exciting opportunity for individuals and teams to travel and work closely with people of another culture and to make a difference in their lives. Funding a PlayPump® water system for a school and the wider community will bring safe, clean drinking water to thousands of people. Building simple toilets, kitchens and repairing classrooms will provide a unique experience that opens your eyes to the plight of others who do not have clean water, sanitation, and simple school facilities that many of us take for granted. It is a physical and emotional experience, and volunteers often come away knowing a great deal more about themselves than they did beforehand.
All it takes to participate in a communitychallenge is lots of enthusiasm, motivation and a desire to help make a difference. No other skills are required as there will be skilled supervisors on hand to show you what to do. Working alongside local people and the wider community, your communitychallenge will help to provide hope for both a school and the local community in need.
Mokalake School in South Africa has a PlayPump installed and school attendance has increased by 34% following the installation.
The Head Teacher says “The PlayPump has changed our lives completely. The children love (playing on) it and having clean water always available means they come to school for all the day and gain an education. Even more are coming now we have water....we have water to wash our hands...we can let the children run around and we cook them a good meal at lunchtime...they help in the garden – it teaches them how to live at home and look after themselves and their family.”
