Trip overview

Womankind is celebrating its 25th anniversary and through partnerships all over Africa, Asia and Latin America has helped more than 12 million women and their families.  This trip is a great opportunity to both see for yourself the work that is currently taking place in Ethiopia and to raise much needed funds to help reach even more women.

This prestigious 10K run is held in Africa’s highest capital city, at an altitude of 8,000ft and under the soaring heat of the Ethiopian sun.

You will take time out to meet Womankind partners in Addis Ababa giving you a chance to see how Womankind and our partners are helping women to transform their lives and their communities.

Womankind in Ethiopia

Womankind is supporting women in Ethiopia by working with 4 local women’s rights organisation to:

• Support women and girl survivors of violence,
• Encourage girls to stay in school
• Engaging communities to abandon harmful traditional practices
• Give women control over their own livelihoods to protect themselves from violence

Making a difference

• In 2013 the work of our partners directly improved the lives of over 290,000 women, men, girls and boys in Ethiopia.
• Over 170,000 women and girls learnt about violence against women and harmful traditional practices, enabling  them to speak out in their communities
• More than 2,000 women were supported to earn their own income by taking part in business skills training and learning about savings and credit groups
• Over 3,500 women claimed their rights and accessed justice with legal assistance
• Over 4,000 female students received educational support, improving their future opportunities and keeping them safe from harmful traditional practices
