All you need to know

The challenge

  • Take on the highest mountains in the UK
  • Be one of the first hikers of the day to take on Ben Nevis
  • As the sun rises take on Scafell Pike
  • Finish your challenge on Wales's infamous peak, Snowdon
  • Aim to summit all three peaks in 48hrs, including travel between peaks!

Your Three Peaks Challenge takes on the highest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales all within 48 hours. The trek covers 40kms and involves 2,984m of ascent and descent.

Your challenge begins with a pick up in Manchester, near enough the centrepoint of the UK, and with a transfer to one of Scotland’s most scenic areas; Glen Nevis Valley. From here you will climb Ben Nevis, the largest mountain in the UK, standing at 1,344m. Your first peak affords spectacular views as you begin trekking shortly after sunrise, one of the first hikers of the day to take on the famous peak. On descending Ben Nevis you will be driven immediately towards the beautiful Lake District.

After being accommodated overnight in the Lakes you will climb the second of your Three Peaks - Scafell Pike; the highest mountain in England standing at 978m. As you ascend through sunrise you can enjoy fantastic scenery looking down over the hills and lakes of the region.

Your final challenge takes on the highest mountain in Wales; Snowdon, standing at 1,085m. Snowdon, or Yr Wyddfa in Welsh, is a national treasure with its unique bio-diversity of plants and wildlife and is a stunning end to the last of your Three Peaks.

There are many horror stories of the National 3 Peaks challenge, of fundraisers bulldozing their way up these mountains, dropping litter, food waste glow sticks, defecating inappropriately within the park and causing, ironically for a charity event, more work for the National Trust, which is also a charitable organisation.

We have made a few conscious decisions about this challenge in order to provide it responsibly and with the utmost respect for the UK's mountain environments. To read a comprehensive 'Mission Statement' explaining exactly what we and our suppliers expect from our 3 Peaks Challenge, click here.

For a brief version, read on!

  • We will never deliver a National 3 Peaks in 24 Hours challenge, preferring to run it over a 48 hours period. This reduces the anti-social impacts of the challenge, particularly at Wasdale Head, and takes out the temptation to drive dangerously or illegally
  • We will only operate groups of 12 or less, allowing us to effectively manage the affect of the group on the mountain environments
  • All groups will be fully briefed on our environmental policy prior to the challenge
  • The challenge will be led by our experienced mountain leaders.
  • We will leave no trace on the mountain and minimise disturbances to local communities
  • Our suppliers support charities and organisations that operate in the trekking areas, as well as the Mountain Rescue
  • We will, where possible, not put a 3 Peaks trek on over a bank holiday weekend

We take our responsibilities in this area very seriously, and are commited to providing the most challenging adventure possible, while remaining conscious of the fragile environments in which we are trekking.
