Back Up exists to transform the lives of everyone affected by spinal cord injury. That means delivering a range of services to build confidence and independence back into people’s lives, and offering a support network when it is needed most. It also means challenging perceptions of disability – that life with spinal cord injury can be a full and active one. Many of our volunteer and staff team have been affected by spinal cord injury, and have a strong understanding of the challenges an injury can pose. We support over 1,000 people a year – of all ages and injury levels – to lead the life they want. We are there at every stage, and we are there for families and loved ones too. Our outreach team deliver vital wheelchair skills training in hospitals and spinal centres, and contact people once they return home, offering an understanding ear and practical advice. Our residential courses help people with a spinal cord injury build confidence, give them a supportive network and opportunities to learn life skills that allow them to be as independent as possible. Our Back Up to Work course and education inclusion service support people as they find their way back to work and education. Our mentoring service matches people with a spinal cord injury and their family members with someone who has been through the same situation. They are there to listen on a regular basis and help people move forwards with their lives.

Barrett's Wessex, officially “Wessex friends of Barrett's Oesophagus Campaign”, works with that national charity researching the pre-cancerous condition, Barrett's Oesophagus, whilst supporting those affected by persistent heartburn, Barrett's Oesophagus or Oesophageal cancer through a website, newsletters and meetings across the greater Wessex area and raising funds for local initiatives.

Our children might not be able to complete the kind of physical challenge you're about to embark on but they are no strangers to the mental strength needed to fight Barth syndrome. We're working hard to find treatments and one day a cure for our children who have this rare and life threatening condition. Our research goal - to prevent cancer and develop better diagnostic techniques and treatments - ultimately will improve patient survival and enhance the quality of life for those with long-term disease. We also use our expertise to teach and educate students and professionals about the science of, and the gold-standard clinical approach to, cancer, and to engage our local population and make the often difficult subject of cancer accessible to anyone that requires or is interested in our research.

BCDH is one of the busiest re-homing centres in the UK, caring for over 1,600 unwanted, abandoned and abused pets every year. Through our adoption scheme we aim to find every animal a new loving home no matter how long it may take. Although a Branch of the RSPCA, we rely entirely upon donations, legacies and fundraising events to meet our running costs.

We care for 85 nature reserves that are safe havens for rare & endangered species & habitats. We encourage all sectors of the community to learn about & care for our natural heritage. We work with other landowners & seek to influence decisions to safeguard important wildlife habitats.

Beyond exists to improve the mental health of young people up and down the UK. Beyond Food Foundation is a charity working with vulnerable individuals, impacted by alcohol/drug addiction, mental health issues or who are leaving prison or young adults departing from care services. Beyond Food run life changing programmes that focus on getting people aged 16- 65 into fulfilling and meaningful employment within the hospitality industry – helping to address the current recruitment crisis in hospitality in London. Over the last 10 years Beyond Food and Brigade Bar+Kitchen have supported over 7000 people. BHT Sussex is a housing association and a homeless charity. We provide essential services across Brighton & Hove, Eastbourne and Hastings, as well as elsewhere in Sussex. We see it as our role to both challenge the causes of homelessness, poverty and marginalisation and to deal with the consequences. The prevalence of bipolar is a surprise to many; matched only by shock at the lack of day to day support for individuals and families affected by bipolar. That’s where we come in. Bipolar UK is here to support and empower more people affected by bipolar – a mental health illness characterised by significant mood swings including manic highs and depressive lows. We help over 80,000 individuals and families a year through a blend of free services across the country.

Birdshot Uveitis is a rare and potentially blinding disease.  The most concerning issue is that if left untreated or if flare ups are aggressive, it can lead to macular oedema, a swelling of the macula layer in the eye which can cause blindness. Currently there is no known cure and little is understood about the disease. The Birdshot Uveitis Society (BUS) is a registered charity that offers support and practical advice and aims to educate the general public and health professionals about this rare, hard to treat, autoimmune form of posterior uveitis. The aims of the Birdshot Uveitis Society are to: • Support people diagnosed with Birdshot Uveitis and their friends and family members. • Provide information for healthcare professionals and patients.• Raise awareness of Birdshot Uveitis. • Raise funds to enable us to expand our support network and information base and to undertake research, where appropriate.
