Not having to worry about the care a loved one receives, knowing they are in safe hands means every second spent together is dignified and peaceful. Without support such as yours, our specialist palliative care units wouldn’t be able to deliver such high standards.

The Rachel Lane Fund was set up to carry on the fundraising started by Rachel who finally said goodbye to the world on the 22 October 2012 aged just 27. Rachel Lane battled cancer for five years and her courage and inspiration touched so many people. Despite having to undergo many different treatments, with often dreadful side effects, Rachel never once complained or said ‘why me’. She was just totally focused on kicking the cancer. During Rachel’s long journey she helped many people and raised lots of money for charity. This fund will ensure her inspiration and good work continues to help others. Money raised is managed by Norfolk Community Foundation and split between two local charities – Star Throwers and Big C.

The Norrie Disease Foundation promotes vital new research and provides support to families affected by Norrie disease in the UK. Norrie disease is a genetic disorder causing mainly boys to be born blind or with severe sight impairment. Secondary symptoms can include progressive hearing loss, cognitive impairment, autism and delayed development.

Our Hospice cares for about 80 local people every day. Our philosophy is to treat everyone as unique individuals and our focus is being their for all the family. All of our care and specialist work is provided completely fee of charge, so we are dependent on the support that we receive to be able to do this.

We are a charity united by our passion to make a difference. We vow to help create change by making better living conditions for our homeless and vulnerable of the North east. We also support those who are financially vulnerable and in danger of homelessness and their families. The support we provide is holistic, person centred through accessing practical none prescriptive projects.

We are an independant mental health charity providing support to people living in Dartford, Gravesham, Swanley and Medway. We support our local community through our housing service, fee-paying counselling, anger managment courses, employment services, money guidance, a selection of wellbeing services and children's and young person's services. Although we are part of National Mind, we are responsible for our own fundraising to ensure our services continue. As a charity, we are supported in our mission by paid staff, trained volunteers, sessional self-employed workers and student social workers on placement.

North of England Children's Cancer Research was set up in 1979 by a group of parents whose lives had been changed forever by childhood cancer. Over £30 million has been raised to help establish a world class team of researchers based in the Wolfson Childhood Cancer Research Centre, Newcastle Upon Tyne. We have come a long way since 1979, with 80% of children diagnosed with cancer now surviving. However, there is still a long way to go. Many childhood cancer treatments are harsh and distressing and cause life altering side effects. We are funding research to find more effective and less toxic treatments to fight childhood cancers and help more children live long, happy lives.

Since 1999, the North West Air Ambulance Charity has had a huge impact on the lives of many across the North West. From accidental injuries to severe medical emergencies, our crew delivers specialist and enhanced pre-hospital care to the most critically ill and injured, and transport patients to the most appropriate hospital to achieve the best outcomes for them. Medical interventions that we provide at the scene of an incident include Rapid Sequence Induction (RSI), administering blood transfusions, analgesia, and many other lifesaving interventions.

We are the only independent cancer research charity fighting the toughest cancers in North West England and North Wales. Our belief is that by working together with our researchers, fundraisers and supporters, we can save more lives sooner. 1 in 2 of us will be touched by cancer at some point in our lives. Cancer is one of the biggest causes of premature adult deaths in the UK. Every year around 350,000 new cases of cancer are diagnosed and more than 160,000 people die from the disease. North West England and North Wales, where we operate, are home to some of the UK’s highest cancer rates. In the North West in particular you are 25% more likely to be diagnosed with cancer than anywhere else in the country. A gap which is unfortunately widening. The good news is that more people are now surviving cancer than ever before. Today, Thanks to research, half of all people diagnosed with cancer will now survive. This is why funding for cancer research is so important. Some of the world’s leading cancer research is happening right here in the North West of England and North Wales. North West Cancer Research works in partnership with some of the country’s top research centres based at the University of Liverpool, Lancaster University and Bangor University. Our researchers are making vital progress into our understanding of cancer, how to detect, prevent and treat it, benefitting patients in the North West, North Wales and beyond. We have committed to funding more than £12.3million worth of research over the next five years. To date our funding has helped facilitate clinical and laboratory research, looking at skin cancer, lung cancer, head and neck cancers and many, many more. It has helped facilitate the first ever clinical trial to look at the effective treatment of bowel cancer in Liverpool, and throughout Europe. It has allowed us to purchase state of the art equipment, such as a Quadrupole Mass Spectrometer at Bangor University which is vital for fundamental cancer research. This is just a small snapshot of the research we fund. We are only able to do so thanks to the strength of our supporters, who to date have helped us raise millions of pounds for cancer research. Thanks to their help, our researchers can help people affected by cancer today and in future generations to come. Our aim is simple: to fund the best medical research for local people in North West England and North Wales, to stop cancer sooner.

The Hope Centre is a charity that aids homelessness in Northampton. Homelessness is a big problem in the UK, especially in busy places like Northampton. We have a day centre in which the homeless can come in and get clean clothes, a shower and breakfast and lunch. We also have different activities on different days, for example getting haircuts or Art, creative writing, Maths, English and IT classes. The individuals are also able to do employability and communications courses, as well as a first aid in the workplace course. We also do all sorts of events such as bike rides, sleeping rough for a night, charity runs and many more. However, we would like to branch out further and do more events in order to raise more money.

Northern Ireland Hospice is the leading provider of palliative care throughout Northern Ireland. This year we will care for over 4,000 babies, children, and adults with life-limiting and life-threatening illnesses. Our services deliver specialist end of life care, care at home, supported short breaks and specialist symptom management, both in our dedicated purpose-built hospices and in our local communities, in a patient's own home. 90% of Hospice care is delivered in communities across Northern Ireland. We help people to live and die well, in comfort, surrounded by those most important to them. Government partially fund Hospice, so we rely heavily on the goodwill and generosity of local people to deliver our much-needed support.

Northumbria Healthcare’s Bright charity funds those things that the NHS does not, including better facilities for patients and their families alongside support for staff to enable them to provide the best possible care. It also has a fantastic, innovative partnership with Tanzania's Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Centre.

Northwood African Education Foundation (NAEF) charity was established in 2011. The charity’s aim was to build and run a completely free school for orphans and the most vulnerable children in Gondar, Ethiopia. Named after St. George the patron saint of both Ethiopia and England, St. George’s School now has over 400 children attending with our aim to keep both boys and girls in education to 18 with a higher than average number progressing to university. We wish to inspire real and long term change and act as a beacon of education across Ethiopia. We have also embarked on new programmes to demonstrate our potential to be a force for good across the local community, supporting jobs, promoting health and wellbeing and sharing facilities with other local schools. We work closely with the Ethiopian government and the local community to build strong relationships that will ensure the sustainability and the success of the school in the long term. More than 50 local staff, both academic and ancillary are currently employed at St. George’s a number that is set to grow as the school does.
