Bibby Line Group Brazil Community Challenge

Today Brazil is the 8th world economy and could become the 5th in the next decade. Nevertheless, the poor housing that endanger the health of Brazilians are the great challenge in the country´s big cities.

In Brazil, according to the Ministry of Cities, the housing deficit is estimated to be 6.3 million homes. In big cities as São Paulo, a huge number of low-income families live in slum areas where there just isn’t sufficient adequate housing available. Most low-income families living in these areas use self-construction or hire the services of local construction workers who have limited technical skills.

This situation frequently results in high costs, low quality homes and environmental problems. Habitat for Humanity Brazil is addressing this need through a three-year home improvements program that provides social and technical assistance, architect orientation, and will build and repair homes.

This program aims to serve 2.000 families from different slum areas of São Paulo State, from 2011 to 2015.
