The base for this challenge is in the incredible Elizabethan mansion that now houses the YHA in Whitby. That means we based right next to Whitby abbey, high up on the cliff tops above the town with spectacular views across the harbour.
You will need to plan to arrive at the accommodation by 5pm on Friday evening.
This will give you plenty of time to get settled in before dinner at approximately 6pm.
Following dinner there will be a comprehensive welcome and safety briefing where everyone will have the opportuity to meet each other and your challenge leaders.
It is vital that you attend the Friday evening safety briefing, so please plan your travel accordingly.
Everyone is sure to be feeling a little bit nervous on Saturday morning but after a a hearty breakfast those nerves will soon be replaced by excitement! The trek will begin at 8am.
With your experienced trekking leaders there to support you, you will work together as a team to complete the day section of this endurance event. The day route will take everyone south of Whitby, walking along the magnificnet coastal scenery and down to the beautiful village of Robin Hood's Bay, tooked away amongst a jumble of houses built against the cliffs. After stopping for the obligatory ice cream the route then begins to loop back towards Whitby following the old railway line.
After approximately 12 hours of walking you will stop for a fully cooked dinner back at the YHA before beginning again on the night section of the challenge.
After dinner you will have a change of trekking leaders and the real challenge begins. The night route! You will begin by descend into Whitby and making your way through the old streets of this hostoric town before heading north towards the village of Lyth. The night section is always the real test, so we'll make sure you are fully supported with lots of checkpoints, snacks, hot drinks and luminous facepaint! The final section of the route brings you back along the coast, hopefully with a beautiful sunrise, before the final challenge of those 199 steps up to the abbey and the finish!
As the dawn arrives the finish line will almost be within sight - however you will need all of your team spirit to complete the final few hours as your legs begin to feel heavy and tired!
You will finish at 8am, back in Whitby at the YHA, on Sunday morning and then be able to celebrate your incredible achievements with a delicious celebration breakfast.
After breakfast you will have the chance to shower and freshen up before saying goodbye to friends who you'll have shared this incredible experience with.
