The Challenge

Thu 14 Sep (optional) - Pre-Challenge arrival

You will have the option for overnight accommodation at The Hilton Hotel Reading on Thursday 14 September 2023. The onus is on you to arrange your own dinner plans, with £30 towards the meal claimable via our expenses process.

For those staying at the hotel, you will have a full safety briefing and have the chance to ask any last minute questions.

We recommend, if you are participating in the Expert route, that you stay overnight due to an early start on the Friday.  Accommodation is available for anyone taking part in any aspect of the Challenge and is pre-paid in advance by Crest Nicholson.

Fri 15 Sep - The Challenge

After breakfast at the hotel, you will be picked up and transferred by coach to the start of the trek. There will be staggered times depending on what route you are taking part in. A safety briefing will take place at the start points for those who were unable to join the briefing the evening before. Those who are not staying at the hotel will be asked to meet at the hotel for their coach transfer.

Whilst you will be navigating the route, there will be a number of professional, experienced and first aid trained trekking leaders walking the route to support you should you have any issues.

Following the mighty River Thames south you will pass the gorgeous villages of Goring and Streatley before turning away from the river and heading into the Chiltern Hills, a designated area of outstanding natural beauty. On the longer distances, the terrain will become increasingly undulating which will be sure to start to test you.

After passing numerous idyllic Oxfordshire country houses and estates, we will reach The Ridgeway, a prehistoric route that has claim to be Britain's oldest road. Our trekking section is particularly spectacular as the 'ridge' is very clearly defined.

The final stretch of the route takes us back along the River Thames to where we began the day. At the end of the challenge, you will be transferred back to the hotel for a celebration meal and awards to mark your achievement.

There will be an evening celebration taking place at The Hilton Hotel, Reading from 19:30. The evening will consist of a buffet meal, drinks, an awards ceremony for our winners and DJ & Dancing.

You will have the option to stay at The Hilton Hotel, Reading on Friday 15 September 2023.
