Day 5, Wed 22 Nov 2023

Wadi Rum - Hike from Um Al Ngoor to Siq Um Ishrin) (20km, approx. 9hrs)

Today we will start our hike from Um Al Ngoor to Siq Um Ishrin; the deeply crevassed ‘Mother of Twenty’, a 20-domed mountain forming the east flank of Wadi Rum, which is connected to the Seven Pillars of Wisdom formation.

The mountain acquired its name, according to local legend, after a woman killed 19 suitors; she was outwitted by the 20th, so she married him. The whole range turns a magnificent white-capped auburn during sunset.

You will trek through the Wadi Rum Valley, with towering steep red sandstone cliffs either side. Although the walk today is on a mix of sandy and rocky terrain, you can take the opportunity to shelter from the blazing sun with the protection of the canyon walls as your shade.

Keep an eye out for animal tracks on the sand, small desert flowers and plants and listen to your guide as he explains the different rock formations you will come across on each day’s trek. Admire the beautiful landscape, taking in striking colours of reds and purples before heading to your camp for tonight. Tonight’s camp is in Siq Um Ishrin, located in a canyon. (B,L,D)
