    Moderate

This is the perfect challenge for someone who has perhaps never taken on a challenge event before, and is looking to test themselves on an active physical challenge. Although a moderate challenge might be culturally challenging, it will usually be in hotels/lodges rather than camping, and there will be no altitude involved. Training is necessary for all challenges. On a UK 'moderate' challenge, this grading would be perfect for someone who is looking to take their first steps into walking in the UK.

  • Challenging
    ?

    Challenging

A 'challenging' trip will test someone who is moderately fit and has a spirit of adventure. You may have had some previous experience, but this is not necessary as long as the correct training is undertaken. A 'challenging' trip may involve some altitude, but this will be compensated by easier terrain and hiking conditions. On a UK 'challenging' challenge, you will be physically tested but the terrain is often on well-established routes.

  • Tough
    ?

    Tough

A 'tough' trip should be undertaken by someone with previous experience and interest in the activity – whether biking or trekking. It will usually involve camping, and will certainly be in a remote environment, where facilities are not what you would expect at home. A tough challenge will test you both physically and mentally. Both cycle and treks will be hilly, and training is essential. On a UK 'tough' challenge, you should expect 10+ hours of exertion over demanding terrain.

  • Extreme
    ?

    Extreme

Extreme challenges will involve altitude, and a great deal of endurance. These trips are not to be taken lightly, and will take place in extreme environments, without home comforts. They are usually undertaken by someone with previous experience in a mountain setting, but who wants to take their experience to the next level physically and mentally. Training is essential. On a UK 'extreme' challenge you should have previous experience in the mountains of the UK, as you will be tested to the limits.

Annapurna Base Camp Trek

Annapurna Base Camp Trek

Your Annapurna trek passes through a more diverse range of climates, vegetation and cultures than most small countries can boast in their entirety. From lush vegetation of rain and temperate forests to the terraced rice fields the land and its people change daily, giving the trekkers a tantalising introduction to Nepal's natural beauty.

The Annapurna area was first explored by the British Adventure Colonel 'Jimmy' Roberts in 1956. Your trek begins in Pokhara passing through lush green hill country typical to the heartland of Nepal.  Tiny thatched roofed villages, set among the terraced fields, make an attractive picture with the backdrop of the magnificent snowy range of Annapurna, Manaslu and Dhaulagiri and including the most majestic peak of all the Himalayan range the Machapuchere (Fish Tail)

The trek combines spectacular mountain scenery with incredible and cultural diversity and traverses through rural farms and villages.

Enjoy the tranquillity and  the warmth and hospitality of the local Gurung tribes in the close backdrop of the Annapurna and Lamjung Himalayan range.

Avenue of the Volcanoes Charity Mountain Trek in Ecuador

Avenue of the Volcanoes

This beautiful trek is not for the faint-hearted as it culminates in a magical midnight glacier climb. You will feel exhausted but elated as you rise with the sun, rewarded with priceless views over the Andes once you conquer Cayambe. The trek is at very high altitude, which means acclimatisation is vital. The trip will begin in Ecuador’s capital Quito, giving the group time to feel comfortable with their surroundings before venturing off on the challenge of a lifetime. This action-packed itinerary meanders through rainforests and up and over volcanoes. Overall, however, our ultimate destination is the majestic Cayambe.

National Three Peaks Charity Trek

National Three Peaks Challenge

Brace yourself for a fast-paced and physically challenging adventure, as you take on the three highest peaks in England, Scotland and Wales. Considered one of Britain’s toughest outdoor challenges, the National 3 Peaks Challenge takes in the dizzy heights of Ben Nevis (1,344m), Scafell Pike (978m) and Snowdon (1,085m).

Over the course of two days, you will trek around 26 miles and ascend to a total height of almost 3,000m. This is a serious and tough challenge which requires a good level of fitness, as well as plenty of grit and determination. Ultimately, however, your hard work will be rewarded with spectacular views and a huge sense of achievement.

Please Note: We have listened to recent criticism regarding the impact that 24 Hour National 3 Peak challenges were having on the local areas. Our itinerary is designed to minimise these negative impacts. Whilst we aim to complete this challenge as fast as possible we will not do so to the detriment of local communities that this challenge passes through or with any reduction in the safety of the challenge.

Simien Mountain Charity Trek in Ethiopia

Simien Mountain Trek

The Simien Mountains are one of the major highlands of Africa, rising to their highest point at Ras Dejen (4,620m) in Ethiopia. Charity Challenge’s route up Africa’s fourth highest peak is a long way from the regular tourist trails. Instead, it leads into beautiful lowland valleys and high escarpments, dotted with Amhara villages. Tough but rewarding, the summit trek is followed by a challenging ridge route, which takes in several 4,000m peaks en route. Perhaps the biggest challenge comes on the trek from Arkwasyie as we leave the higher plateau, cross several substantial ridges and valleys and climb down the near vertical Devil's Staircase with a 900m descent to reach Lamo. This colourful itinerary includes time in historic Gondar and the capital of Addis Ababa, offering many encounters with the ancient culture of this fascinating African country.

Stok Kangri Charity Mountain Trek in India

Stok Kangri Summit Trek

This outstanding trek to the summit of India's magnificent mountain, Stok Kangri (6,114m), is the perfect challenge for trekkers who want to summit an Indian Himalayan Peak. It is one of the main peaks of the Zansker range, situated in the fascinating region of Ladakh. Your trekking adventure begins at Leh where you will have plenty of time to acclimatise to the high altitude. This stark region of high passes and wild mountains is softened by the immense charm of the Ladakhi villages and their inhabitants. You will spend several days acclimatising by visiting the colourful monasteries at Shey, Thikse and Hemis and visiting the world highest driveable road at Khardungla, before setting off on the memorable trek to Stok Kangri. You will trek for between 10-15kms per day and although the route is very safe and technically straightforward (involving low-angle scree and easy snow slopes), the climb up Stok Kangri is challenging and may involve the use of crampons, ice axes and ropes.
