“For those of you who have never experienced the adventure of Asia, this is the best opportunity to discover the contrasts between the ever-present ancient culture of Cambodia, and the modern, vibrant buzz of Bangkok. Those of you who have already taken on our popular Saigon to Angkor Wat challenge are probably already in love with Cambodia – this challenge gives you the opportunity to get to know some new places, and, why not, even cross the border to the fascinating Thailand! You will stay longer in Cambodia, but the challenge as a whole is shorter to give you time-precious people an opportunity to complete your dream journey.

Who said that cycling in Cambodia wasn’t challenging? My legs were burning after a day in the saddle! The cycle begins at the glorious Angkor Wat temples, but quickly becomes a more remote adventure as you cycle west towards Thailand. It becomes tougher as you leave Siem Reap and get into the more elevated areas around the Cardomom mountains. The rural communities will welcome you with happy smiles as you cycle past mango trees, yucca plantations, bamboo fields and a host of vendors selling their artisanal works by the side of the road. As you come nearer to the town of Pailin, just 60km away from the Thai border, you will be astounded by the beauty of their jewellery; the town was once very prosperous due to the extensive gem deposits found in the surrounding countryside in the 1970s. The town itself was once part of the Khmer Empire, but was ruled by Thai for several centuries and also had a large amount of emigration from the Burmese, making it a fascinating cultural mixture that you will discover in the wonderful food, in the changing facial features of the locals around you, and in many other places along the ride. Your guide will be able to tell you many fascinating facts like these as you go, and hopefully this will take your mind off your aching thighs!

Once you pass the Cardamom mo untains you will be in Thailand, cycling towards one of the busiest cities in Asia, Bangkok! Your legs will have to adapt to the change in gradient as your Thailand adventure will take you along the undulating coastal region of the country. But the sight of Thailand’s beautiful blue seas will be your reward, and we have deliberately built the chance for a swim into your itinerary to give you a refreshing lift!
