Over the last 25 years, Charity Challenge have worked with hundreds of businesses to provide innovative and dynamic solutions for employee engagement, and CSR. Our exclusive corporate challenges help companies develop stronger team bonds, demonstrate corporate responsibility and have amazing experiences, all whilst supporting their charity partnerships.
We caught up with Tijmen Wigchert, National Marketing and Business Development Senior Manager at UHY-UK Hacker Young, to see how their exclusive corporate London Royal Parks challenge went…

Please introduce yourself…
I’m Tijmen Wigchert, I’m the National Marketing and Business Development Senior Manager at UHY Hacker Young and with Charity Challenge, I led a corporate London Royal Parks challenge in April 2024 – raising over £18,000 for Teenage Cancer Trust.

Why did you choose Charity Challenge?
Charity Challenge were really flexible with a few things. They were flexible with us on choosing a date, allowing us to choose any available date or even join an open challenge if we wished. They were also really flexible with our chosen charity. Charity Challenge helped sort out the finance side of things, making sure they and the charity received all necessary payments, consistently relaying communication with the charity. It seemed like the most flexible way for us to organise a corporate UHY event and really make it ours with banners and flags – whilst having the organisation part taken away by Charity Challenge.

What were you hoping to achieve?
We first started doing national challenges in 2023 – and in 2024, we wanted to do a good challenge that would raise a decent amount for our chosen charity, but that was more inclusive for people. So, in this case, we chose the London Royal Parks challenge. It was still very tough! But what we really wanted to do was get our teams from across the UK together, which doesn’t happen often. We have 24 offices across the UK, so the participants came from all over the UK – it was really nice to have everyone together, whilst raising money for a great cause.

How did it go?
We had 57 people join the challenge. It was really nice how Charity Challenge organised a place to get together at the start, to have a briefing and for people to sort their bags out and get ready! During the challenge, we had a few dropouts along the way, so it was great having an organised support vehicle, so that those who had to, could get in the car and even meet us at the next checkpoint to join us again if they wanted. Everyone, even the people who had to drop out, said how much they enjoyed it. It was great to have everyone come together and chat, especially colleagues who you see a lot of online but never in person! In total, we raised just over £18,000 for Teenage Cancer Trust.

What were your highlights?
Besides finally getting to the finish line – it was just nice to get everyone together! We all really enjoyed it, it was a well organised day, and it was great to do it all in one big group too, meaning we could stay with each other throughout the walk.

What did Charity Challenge do well?
Pre-challenge: The organisation was great from the beginning. We had calls with Simon and the charity themselves, to get our heads together to work out how we were going to do it. It was amazing for each challenger to have their own Participant Account Area, meaning we were also able to keep on top of payments and deadlines. Charity Challenge really took the admin out of our hands in the lead up to the challenge, which was very helpful.
During the challenge: Everything was smoothly organised – the starting point was great, the lunch was brilliant (everybody was loving the Greggs lunch!), and having the support vehicle following us along the route meant we could see those that had to drop out at the finish line. The snacks and refreshments available throughout the challenge were amazing, with a great variety to keep everyone fuelled all the way to the end.
Post-challenge: After the challenge, the team emailed me to organise a further debrief. The aftercare and check-ins were good to have.

Testimonial
I would recommend Charity Challenge, to both corporates and charities. Their organisation really took a lot out of our hands. They are flexible and informative with challenges and dates – and their communication with us and our chosen charity in the lead up to the challenge was excellent.
