NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTIONS – CHALLENGE YOURSELF

January 1, 2025

We’ve heard it before: new year, new resolutions, new you! After an indulgent Christmas holiday celebrating the end of the year, we look ahead to January for a fresh start. We all want to put our best foot forward and what better way of tackling the winter blues than by making a promise to yourself to do better and achieve more?

Our resolutions often cover similar ground. Whether it’s increasing your exercise, getting outdoors more, travelling and seeing new places, making new connections, or generally doing some good in the world. Instead of picking just one of these, why not make a resolution that covers them all? When you sign up for an outdoor adventure challenge with Charity Challenge, you’re guaranteed to end up ticking off each of these at some point in your journey.

Read on to find out exactly how a Charity Challenge can help create that inspired ‘new you’ (and for special New Years Sale offers!).

How signing up for a Charity Challenge creates lasting change…

CoppaFeel Trekkers celebrating at the finish line with medals

1) Motivated movement

When you make conquering a charity challenge your New Year’s resolution, you’ll have increased motivation to stick to your exercise plans! Exercising regularly and getting outdoors as part of your training could help improve your mental health – especially important over the first colder and darker months of the year.

We offer a wide range of outdoor challenges in the UK and overseas, from trekking to cycling, with difficulty levels varying from challenging to extreme. When you sign up to a challenge, you get your own participant account area – and within the Fitness & Training tab, you’ll find lots of helpful resources to help you slowly build up your fitness over the months.

2) Feel-good fundraising

We specialise in challenge events where participants can raise money for any UK or Irish registered charity of their choice. Over 25 years, we’ve now helped raise over £83 million for charities across the UK. We already partner with thousands of UK and Irish registered charities, from big to small. Choose to support one that means something special to you. Knowing your efforts are helping towards their cause will inspire you to keep going when it gets tough.

3) Travel tick lists

We operate excellent challenges across 6 continents, in over 40 countries worldwide, so it’s up to you to choose where your adventure takes you. Over rolling green hills, through lush rainforests, otherworldly desert landscapes or scaling impressive mountains – what will you choose? Joining a charity challenge opens up new destinations for you, whilst allowing you to travel responsibly and with a greater purpose in mind.

4) Ongoing motivation

Whether you choose a challenge in 2025 or 2026, don’t miss the chance to sign up to one of our amazing upcoming challenges. The earlier you get it in your diary, the earlier you can become the ‘new you’. Start 2025 as you mean to go on – feeling motivated to improve your fitness and fundraising efforts week by week, whilst looking forward to an exciting future goal. You’ll reach many milestones along the way, feeling a sense of ongoing achievement and fulfilment that really lasts!

5) Meet people and make memories

Although you’re welcome to sign up with friends, most of our challengers are solo adventurers. So, you’re guaranteed to meet some like-minded people on your challenge and even make some lasting friendships! Our participants love the sense of camaraderie they find on our challenges and often feel inspired and uplifted when they come away, eager to sign up for their next one.

6) Creating lasting community

As well as open challenges, we also run exclusive charity challenges throughout the year, where all participants are raising funds for one specfic charity. If you sign up for one of these and choose to share your contact details, you’ll be able to make new connections with people who care about the same cause you do. Sharing stories and forming new bonds is great for our mental health and is another way to keep you fulfilled and grateful in the new year. We also connect you directly with your charity, helping open up a new community of support for you.

New Year’s sale now live!

FESTIVE FUNDRAISING IDEAS FOR WINTER

December 20, 2024

With the arrival of the holiday season comes shorter days and chilly evenings – so it’s no wonder most of us prefer to stay cosied up indoors. This doesn’t have to darken our festive fundraising spirits though! Here at Charity Challenge, we know plenty of fun ways to keep potential donors engaged – from crafty competitions to imaginative cocktail nights. Over the slower winter months, people love any excuse to keep energised and feeling good about themselves. After all, it is also the season of giving!

Let’s get started with some crafty ideas. You could use any of these ideas individually, or host an event that includes all of them…

Christmas baubles, christmas craft, paint, festive fundraising ideas

Christmas Bauble Decorating Competition

A simple festive fundraising idea – have fun with glitter and glue. To get all ages involved you could have two prizes – one for adults and one for children!

Hot chocolate with a gingerbread man, festive fundraising ideas

Build-Your-Own-Hot-Chocolate Stand

Everybody loves hand-warming hot chocolate during winter. By providing a few extra festive toppings to choose from (such as snowman shaped marshmallows or even edible glitter) you could create an interactive stand that kids will love and parents will happily part with a few pounds for!

Bake Off wrote in flour on a table with baking equipment, festive fundraising ideas

Christmas Cookies Bake-Off

Does what it says on the Christmas-cookie-tin! Bake some melting snowmen or reindeer cupcakes and hold a bake sale to raise some money for your fundraising target. Or, host a festive Bake Off in your office or local village hall, charge £10 entry with the winner getting a prize.

Picturing something more social? Keep reading for festive fundraising ideas that bring people together for a good time and a good cause…

New Years Eve fireworks over a city skyline

New Year’s Eve Cocktail Night (With a Fancy Dress Twist)

People love an excuse to get dressed up, especially to decompress after the busy lead-up to Christmas. For some added fun, why not make it fancy-dress-themed as well? Work out a suitable entry cost for your guests and make sure to hand out some prizes for the best, worst or most festive looks…

Movie Film Ticket, festive fundraising ideas

Festive Themed Film and Food Movie Night

Themed food-and-film nights are gaining popularity – and for a good reason. They combine screening movie favourites with a yummy menu (think Home Alone plus Pizza or The Grinch with a side of green cookies!).

Christmas Stocking with money in

Christmas Carol-oke!

Host a festive Karaoke night and have a good old-fashioned sing-a-long! You could also hand out a prize for the best performance (or worst, if you’re channeling your inner Scrooge…).

With these ideas to give you a helping hand, there’s no excuse to forgo your fundraising efforts this Winter!

There’s also nothing like a Charity Challenge to keep you motivated during this upcoming New Year. Training yourself up and gaining donor support for a tough-yet-rewarding outdoor challenge is a great way to achieve feeling good inside and out! So, if you haven’t already, don’t forget to sign up to one of our inspiring 2025/2026 challenges.

A THANK-YOU FROM CHARITY CHALLENGE FOUNDER SIMON ALBERT

December 18, 2024

25 years ago, my best friend and business partner (Jeremy Gane) and I created Charity Challenge with a vision to provide opportunities to take on some amazing adventures around the world and raise funds for good causes.

We didn’t know where it would lead, but we dared to dream…

Above picture: Simon (middle), with Charity Challenge open group on the Trek Dalai lama challenge March 2024, along with support team and local community – at the finish line.

Now a quarter of a century later, we have helped tens of thousands of participants to raise £84 million for thousands of good causes, on challenges across five continents.

It is with immense pride and a massive amount of gratitude to our charity and corporate partners, our participants, staff, leaders, doctors, and local ground teams, that we share those achievements.

In the last 12 months alone, over 5000 participants have taken on a challenge across the UK (including Snowdonia, the Scottish Highlands, Hadrian’s Wall, South Downs, Lake District and Peak District), and throughout the world (including the Himalayas, Andes, Sahara, Kilimanjaro and the Great Wall of China).

Collectively, they have raised over £5 million for charities that are fighting poverty, disease, homelessness, and hunger (amongst many other great causes).

A massive well done to everyone involved!

I personally managed to get out on two of our classic challenges, both a first for me.

In March, I headed off on the Dalai Lama Himalayan Trek, where I had the privilege of trekking with an amazing group of individuals with incredibly moving reasons for taking on their own personal challenge. We had the honour of meeting His Holiness the Dalai Lama, before heading out on a five-day trek with incredible scenery, great food and hospitality.

And in September, I travelled to Morocco for my first ever climb of Mount Toubkal, the highest mountain in North Africa, standing at 4167m above sea level. It was a significant challenge that reminded me that I am no longer as fit or as agile as I was when I started the business!

As I trekked with employees from Lloyds Banking Group (who raised well over £500,000 for Crisis), and recounted the advice I was given that led to me starting the business (“If you want to be successful, do something you’re passionate about”) I had a realization that what I do gain every year is an even greater passion for what I do. I absolutely love it. I really do. I feel blessed to be able to do what I do, and help others achieve what they might have once felt was impossible.

Don’t get me wrong, it is very stressful at times, and I am grateful to my wife and sons for being understanding when I have to deal with emergencies in the middle of the night or on weekends, but hearing the stories from participants about the obstacles they have overcome to be there and the connections they have to the causes they are supporting, refuels and recharges my passion.

As the year comes to a close, we look forward to another busy year in 2025, already looking like being the busiest we have ever had.

We’re exploring a number of new destinations and we look forward to sharing them with you!

We’re partnering new charities and corporates, and we’re excited to welcome new and repeat participants on to our challenges, visiting some impressive destinations around the world.

We wish everyone connected to the Charity Challenge family a very happy, healthy and adventurous new year too.
